Analepsis love by Prathima Rao G

The phone rings, the voice on the other end says, why can’t you accept it?!? How could you be so mean!!!

It’s enough for now, not gonna talk anything further about this… he hangs up the call and fiercely throws the phone over the floor!!!

He walks down the hallway blabbering to himself!!!

The whole conversation was heard by his grandfather!

Heyyy Cowrie, what’s up?!? Seems like you and your girlfriend are going through the tough times!!!

Gamps, please just don’t ever even try to involve in this. Have you ever felt what love is?!? You never know how it feels when your most loved ones break your heart!!!

Oh!!! Yeah, might be I haven’t experienced one, yet I can tell you one such story… Do you wanna listen to it?!?

Ok, it might help to relax said cowrie as he grabs a little chair to sit in front of his grandfather placing his phone on the table next to the couch!!!

His grandfather adjusts his glasses as he starts to narrate,

It was a glorious, colorful autumn.

The guy and the girl just left the coffee shop. When they walked by, the girl giggled and pulled him inside, saying, “C’mon let’s sit somewhere!”

Actually, I don’t like coffee. I never had. But when she handed him her cup and looked into his eyes while he tried it, it was the best thing he’d ever tasted.

His hand still tingled when she grabbed it.

As they walked through the park with their drinks, a light drizzle began to fall. She pulled out an umbrella with her. He couldn’t help but laugh too, her laugh was infectious though…

As the sun started to shine again, she pulled him down to sit on a bench. She beamed down at him, and he could only gaze back adoringly.

“So..” She began. He knew that tone of voice, that’s dangerous.

“Who do you like?” She whispered, and he looked away.

He wanted to say, ‘you, you, a thousand times you. You are the only one I can ever think about. You are gorgeous and sweet and funny and…’

Instead, he shrugged his shoulders and looked at his cup.

She looked at him with a cautious smile. “If I tell mine, will you tell me yours?” she questioned!

“Okay.” He spoke.

“The person I like….is YOU.”

He dropped his drink in felicity!!!

So now, the young guy and the girl fell in love…

But the guy came from a poor family. The girl’s parents weren’t too happy.

So, the young man decided not only to court the girl but to court her parents as well.

In time, the parents saw that he was a good man and was worthy of their daughter’s hand.

But there was another problem: the man was a soldier. Soon, war broke out and he was being sent overseas for a year. The week before he left, the man knelt on his knee and asked his lady love, “Will you marry me?” She wiped a tear, said yes, and they were engaged. They agreed that when he got back in one year, they would get married.

But tragedy stuck. A few days after he left, the girl had a major vehicular accident. It was a head-on collision.

When she woke up in the hospital, she saw her father and mother crying. Immediately, she knew there was something wrong.

She later found out that she suffered brain injury. The part of her brain that controlled her face muscles was damaged. Her once lovely face was now disfigured. She cried as she saw herself in the mirror. “Yesterday, I was beautiful. Today, I’m a monster.” Her body was also covered with so many ugly wounds.

Right there and then, she decided to release her fiance from the promise. For one year, the soldier wrote many letters but she wouldn’t answer. But after one year, the mother walked into her room and announced, “He’s back from the war.”

The girl shouted, “No! please don’t tell him I am here!”

The mother said, “He’s getting married,” and handed her a wedding invitation.

The girl’s heart sank. She knew she still loved him, but she had to forget him now.

With great sadness, she opened the wedding invitation.

And then she saw her name on it!

Confused she asked, “What is this?!?”

That was when the young man entered the room with a bouquet of flowers. He knelt beside her and asked, “Will you marry me?”

The girl covered her face with her hands and said, “I’m ugly!”

The man said, “Without your permission, your mother told me everything and when I saw you, I realized that nothing has changed. You are still the person I fell in love. You are still as beautiful as ever. Because I love you!”

Later they had the perfect family with her husband, a wealthy life with their lovely son.

Soon one night they had the biggest fight during a car ride, the husband in anger rode the car very ferociously!!!

Hours later…

The doctors did not have much to say. The doctors have never promised the moon, but now they were not even showing the silver lining.

Soon a ward boy arrived and stood next to him as his wife was in the ICU. You can collect the patient’s clothes in room number 13. That’s the laundry room near the emergency.

Those were the clothes of his wife.

A heart – wrenching moment awaited for him.

The moment he entered the room, he found himself surrounded by piles of towels, bedsheets and cushions.

Suddenly his eyes fell on a tag with the ICU room number. The clothes she was wearing were nearly in shreds and covered in mud and dried blood. The pale pink dress was with dirt. When he stretched it in both his hands, the visual of it stabbed his chest. A pool of blood had dried at its center as well as on both sides of the upper portion of the legs. It was his beloved blood. He saw how it was torn off from the middle. When he tried to pick up the clothes, a dirty white diamond ring rolled out. It was their wedding ring. His tears ran down the cheeks. He was not able to bear the pain as it all has happened just due to his anger.

After few hours of treatment, he saw his wife’s unconscious motionless body jump on the hospital bed and the machines connected next to her provided a constant beep sound…

He felt his world swim around him..

She took her last breadth on that fateful night. They could not save her.

An innocent soul departed just because of his husband’s anger!!!

You know cowrie “If you have anger when leaving a situation or relationship you are ironically holding on. But if you have forgiveness in your heart, you are moving on.” It depends on what you decide!

Relationships never dies a natural death. They are always murdered by ego, attitude, behavior, expectations, and ignorance! If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow!!!

Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to be your own…A great relationship doesn’t happen because of the love you had in the beginning, but how well you continue building love until the end.

So, son, please don’t lose the most treasured relationships to be ruined because of anger…

Have you ever wondered? love is something beyond the appearance. The outer beauty will capture the eyes, whereas the inner beauty will capture the heart! The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more!!! Love is not about till the end, it’s all about how much you love each other every day!!!

Do you know the meaning of you name Cowrie?!?

No, but it always seems awkward.

It means a glossy, brightly patterned domed shell.

So, what do think is a job of a shell, isn’t it to protect the pearl that is inside you… don’t forget to do that dear!!!

His grandpa wiped off his wet eyes as Cowrie felt too low after hearing to his words.

Cowrie suddenly asked, Heyyy gamps whose story is this, do you have a picture of the couple?!? Was that your friend’s?!?

His grandfather slowly slid his hand beside the table, it was an album. He handed over it carefully to Cowrie.

Cowrie was confused as he saw the images of the vibrant sky of sunrises and sunsets.

Cowrie asked confusingly, what is all this?!?

His grandfather replied I took the pictures of my wife everyday whenever she was beautiful and at the last page of the album he had a polaroid of the gamps and his wife whose face was one side disfigured.

Cowrie realized what he has done and how harsh he was to his grandpa and pearl and whose story was it!!!

As soon as he came to know he got up from his seat, hugged him tight , meanwhile a message flashed on his phone, let’s break up Cowrie, I am done.

Cowrie was about to reply back, but gamps said just go and meet her in person. That would be better!!!

He picked up his jacket and ran typing a message, pearl will be there in five minutes.

After few hours…

His gramps mobile got a notification.

It was from Cowrie who sent a picture of him and pearl being together with a thank you note!!!

His grandfather replied…enjoy and be happy!!! Bless you my child!!!

It’s time for me to see my beautiful wife too!!!

He took up his polaroid camera as he pressed the send button on his phone and took the steps that reached to the terrace!!!
